First port of call was Banff for the Internet access at the Info Centre, and a bit of shopping at IGA.
After a considerable time I managed to book for two nights at the Lake Louise Trailer site for tomorrow and Saturday, got the last place!!! It took me ages to register on the Parks Canada reservation site, but it's done now! We were advised to book ahead at the weekend, just made it !!
Then it was time to do some more exploring, we drove up to Lake Minniewanka (pronounced 'wonka'!!!) which is about 8km north of Banff and had a short stroll. It is berry season and anyone wanting to walk the trail must be in a group of at least 4.
We drove round to Two Jacks Lake hoping there may be a site at the lakeside campsite, but to no avail, so we put plan B into action and set off up Highway 1 and the Bow Valley Parkway to Johnston Canyon. We booked in at the camp site, found our pitch and had lunch. Then we got the boots and sticks out of storage, left the van behind and went for a walk!!
We walked up the canyon to the lower falls first, a paved track most of the way with some interesting 'catwalks'
Lower falls
We walked on the extra mile to the upper falls, along a forested trail, quite steep in parts, but well maintained. We got caught in a heavy shower on this section, first of all rain with a bit of hail mixed in, then it came down in stair rods! Of course M was wearing his Panama hat and carrying an umbrella!!!!
We thought the upper falls were nothing like as spectacular as the lower ones, but we wanted to walk, so it was worth the effort.
