Lakes Louise and Moraine and.......

It was a fairly short drive up,to Lake Louise village where we stopped to do Internet stuff, have a coffee and buy a few supplies, not many though as we had been warned everything is very expensive up here.
Plan A for a walk at Moraine Lake had to be altered as the access road was closed by the time we got there, too many punters. So we went up to Lake Louise instead, parked at the bottom of the hill from the Chateau and set off to walk.

The initial section of the lakeside walk was very busy but it lessened the further we went. We went just beyond the head of the lake, then turned round and sat down, with a few others and a Park Warden, to watch a Grizzly Bear on the other side of the lake. Once located we could see her with the naked eye, but the binoculars gave us a good view

Watching the bear

There she is, stuffing full of berries!!

On the walk we also saw pica, chipmunks,  gray jays and Stellar's jay.

Following all this excitement we drove down to the campsite, booked in and had a cuppa and a rest. At 4.0pm we set off for Moraine Lake again, a 14km drive on what the Canadians consider to be a narrow road!  We certainly would not describe it as narrow or very steep, although it climbed the 1200ft very steadily.  This setting is really spectacular!

First view

Best view!

So glad we made the effort to go up there, but we didn't stay long as it was quite chilly! Gloves, hat, warm jacket all necessary!

We are now back at the campsite, planning to walk to the St Agnes Tea House tomorrow. The forecast does not look too good for Sunday when we are planning to set off over the Icefields Parkway....so we may have to amend our plans, time will tell!
