Whistler to the Sunshine Coast

Sunday
We woke to a grey morning, but, for a time, it was dry! At first the cloud was in the valley, then it rose, covering the mountain tops
First thing this morning.

We left the campsite at about 9.0am and drove down the Sea to Sky highway, except that we were doing it the opposite way round. Such a disappointment not to see the high mountains, but you can never rely on the weather in mountainous areas! This one peaked out from the cloud, it is Mount Tantulus

and it was certainly tantalising! I waited for a few minutes in the hope that more would appear, but the cloud rolled down again!
Once we reached sea level the weather improved, the views reminded us of Norway.

We drove in south to Horsehoe Bay where the BC Ferries leave for Vancouver Isalnd and the Sunshine Coast.

We met Jane, the partner of John P  Farrer there. John is seriously ill in hospital, so all the original plans for visiting them at their homes has gone by the board. However we had a pleasant hour with her. The sun was shining and the sea was calm, much to Michael's relief! The ferry to the Langdale terminal near Gibsons took 40minutes. It was a large ferry capable of taking 364 vehicles, we understand. It being a Sunday, most of the traffic was going back to Vancouver, not north, however it appeared to be pretty full.

Lovely views on the sailing

Once on land again we drove to Gibsons then up the 101 to Sechelt. We had initially planned to camp at the Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, but when we got there I didn't like it! The sites were really dark, enclosed by trees, so, after some deliberation we drove back down the road a short way and booked into the Bayside RV park. The sites here are also in the trees, but it is a bit more open . We revived with a cup of tea, waited for a heavy rain shower to pass, then went for a stroll down to the shoreline.

Tomorrow we will travel north up this coast and take another ferry from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay, to Powell River. We are booked for a sailing across to Vancouver Islan on Tuesday morning.

Total km today : 149 plus the sailing!
Wildlife: nil. Everything is sheltering from the rain!!
